Falling in love with paper & leather marbling

A few weeks ago, I attended a workshop at Marmor Paperie in London, after daydreaming about these workshops for a few years.

The intermediate-level workshop was just as brilliant as I’d hoped, and I really feel that the tricks and techniques I learned from Lucy were just the insight I needed to boost my marbling process.

Since then, I’ve had a good few marbling sessions, using mostly paper, but also leather and fabric. The length of my sessions was limited by the size of my drying rack, which can only hold so many papers at once, rather than by my energy!

I had originally taught myself paint marbling in 2021, in the depths of the house-bound era that was the pandemic. I got some pretty good results, but they were mild, gentle colours. With a better understanding of paint preparation, I’m now achieving colours that really pop.

I’ll be using the paper to make cards, art and perhaps a bit of book binding. The leather will most likely become handy little pouches for crafting supplies or sunglasses cases, if I can bring myself to cut into it!

If the stars align, I’d also like to share the joy of marbling by running some workshops in the future. There, I put it out into the world now. That’s called manifesting, right?

Interested in a workshop? Drop me a line and I’ll let you know once the workshops start taking shape 🙂
