  • A gem for my rubbish memory

Now, this is a God-sent link! A database of the music used in UK adverts, artist and song title. I have songs from adverts stuck in my head, driving me insane trying to find out what the title is!

    What a great find!

  • Advertise this!

I’m still watching the 1970s Office… Love it, love peeling apart their campaigns and yelling at the telly disagreeing (or agreeing, sometimes, rarely…) with Paul Shearer.

It’s more than a regular reality tv show to me, it’s a kind of assessment of how well I think I would fare in the advertising world. Once I got somewhat comfortable within the team, I think I would be a bit of a Nicole. I would argue my point, yet be shocked if someone told me to shut up the way Paul did.

I’d need to go to some kind of emotional boot camp to toughen me up. I’m not strong enough to deal with the “constructive” criticism Paul offers them… Sounded rather destructive to me sometimes.

I’ve found Victor’s ideas generally poor, but what shocks me, is that he is responsible for the painfully annoying elephant.co.uk adverts. I mean, what was he thinking?! Or what were the directors thinking when they allowed those completely unimaginative adverts to go through to tv?

I guess Paul Shearer is my Simon Cowell! 😉

  • Forgot how much I loved it…

I dug out my Ani DiFranco – To The Teeth album this morning and I’m getting butterflies in my tummy listening to this album I neglected for a few years.

I forgot how much I loved it… Yesterday, I was humming “Hello Birmingham” only because of it’s allusion to election day, so I thought I’d pop the cd back out of that dusty binder I should visit more often.

    Mmmm highly recommended.

  • Open letter to Ottawa

    Dear Ottawa,

For such a long time, your people have thrown the “But why England? Isn’t the weather always bad there? Isn’t it always raining?” stereotype in my face, some genuinely curious, others trying to annoy me, knowing how much I hate misconceptions people have about other countries.

Well, today, I irreverently stick my tongue out at you, Ottawa! It’s somewhat grey here but it’s a cozy day, not cold, not hot, just a nice 12 degrees celcius. On the 10-day forecast, I can see that London and my area will be floating a good 6 or 7 degrees above Ottawa, never reaching freezing point at night. In the meantime, you’ll be getting tutted at by your friends for not having your winter tires on yet. You know, black ice? Yeah, that near-invisible annoyance that makes you slip off the Queensway and into the slushy ditch! We’ll probably get that twice this winter, and our bosses will give us their benediction to “work from home” on those days rather than make us go out in that slushy mess.

I’m about to go buy a new winter coat, but this time, I can choose it because it looks good, rather than because of its warmth factor. Because I won’t need to worry about the cold. Minus 5 at the coldest point of winter isn’t anything to write home about, is it?

No more slush, no more struggling through snowbanks to make it to the busstop, and no more frozen eyeballs on the way to school!

Ottawa winter, sorry to say, I won’t miss you. Not the least tiniest little bit at all!

Best regards to you and your road-salting trucks,
    Vero

  • 10 more pointless facts about me

I have to admit, this is based on a chain email I got from Jimena… I’m not a fan of chain emails and anything remotely related to junkmail, but it’s still a good laugh to answer it (10 at the time, not all 100 questions or however many are usually in those emails!)

The last movie/tv show I watched on DVD: Red Dwarf Season 4
Current books I’m reading: Principles of Marketing by Kotler, Bourne Supremacy by Ludlum, and I’m taking a peek in Andrew’s Bill Bryson books as well.
Favourite game: Hmm it’s a tie between The Sims 2 on PC and Dancing Stage Fever (Dance mat) on PS2
Favourite magazine: I don’t really read magazines, but Heat, Closer and other such junk helps pass time at the gym
    Favourite smell: Vanilla mmmmm
Favourite foods: All Asian foods – Thai, Chinese, Japanese (sushi!), Indian… And anything involving seafood
Favourite sounds: Rain on the canal outside our apartment
Worst feeling in the world: Helplessness, when something stresses you out but there’s nothing you can do!
What’s the first thing you think when you wake up?: “What day are we? Please please let it be Saturday…” 😉
Favourite fast food place: Depends how you define fast food… Marks & Spencer sushi is “fast” food but tasty!

  • Fonduism

Last night, we had friends over for Chinese fondue, and it was a really good evening.

We’ve become the Missionaries of the Fondue Set, and our goal is to convert as many people as possible to Fonduism. It’s a very Zen religion, where eating slowly and socially is particularly good for your karma.

I really believe last night was a success in converting two more… Millions more to go! 8)

  • TGIF!

Saying I’m restless today is clearly an understatement! I woke up thinking it was Saturday, and it took me at least 15-20 minutes to realize it wasn’t at all.

MAKE THE DAY END!!! Having a nice big skinny latte to start the day can’t have helped chill me out… I’m all caffeined up and ready to party! Unfortunately, the office is dead quiet and lots of people seem to have taken the day off. It must be the Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas virus… Wish I’d caught it too, but there’s plenty of work to be done today!

  • I shouldn't watch tv in the morning

I was watching Anastacia’s “Left Outside Alone” videoclip this morning, and the deep voice, the need for a corset’ish top and the fake face and eyebrows… I’m convinced she’s a man! Don’t you think?? She seems really tall as well…

*nods* Thursday morning pop-conspiracies, sponsored by Mukluk Inc. 😯

  • And if you leave me now, you take away the very heart of me…

Javalicious I’ve got to admit, I’m a bit all over the place today. I’ve done lots of work, but my mind is on Chinese fondue, weekend and some bizarre ads that I’ve been seeing on TV.

Even after seeing them repeatedly in the past few weeks, I stop what I’m doing every time they’re on. They puzzle me. What’s with the beer-drinking bigger-than-a-car jellyfish?? And WHY OH WHY is the cherry singing Chicago’s “If you leave me now” before being eaten by the little girl??? Does it make any sense to you?

For the out-of-UK folks reading my blog, you can see the ads on the Three Mobile website. I’m not responsible for you singing “Oooooh no, Baby please don’t go” while having a craving for maraschino cherries all day afterwards though.

It’s a mad campaign and I’d love to find out who’s behind the creation of those adverts. There has to be an advertising team with balls of steal to go through with the campaign. I’d just fear people would write it off as pure weirdness… but if it gets people talking, it can’t be that bad, can it?

  • Want to know what mood I'm in?

Well, you’re going to know what mood I’m in!

    Mellow

A cute set of images from Unky Moods caught my attention. The author of the site deserves all the credit for it. The only reason I am hosting the images on my own site is to speed things up since the site seemed a bit slow (could also be slow because Andrew’s downloading Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 clips — Game’s out in a week!).

There’s a link to it on the right too, so feel free to check it out!

I’ll try to put a little icon with each post 🙂
