  • can't believe this is for real…

I knew kids toys were getting worse than before, more disposable and more trendy than ever… But seeing this ad on the Cartoon Network absolutely shocked me.

Remember those post-barbie dolls? The My Scene girls? Well now they’ve got partnerships with shops. Granted they’re shops I like (I’ve got a definite soft spot for Sephora), but to teach such young girls to go on shopping sprees is just messed up! The doll in the TV ad ad says “The strappy shoes? The boots? No I’ll take them ALL!” as she walks out with her Aldo bag…

What more can I say… My kids are going to get Lego, bikes, blankets to build forts out of, books to make their imagination grow. I don’t think those stupid commercial toys are necessary at all! It’s just messed up!

  • Crippled

Ok we’ve already established that I’m clumsy, but last night I managed to prove it again. On the way back from the Goose Fat, I managed to trip and fall in a not-so-dignified manner. I ruined my best black trousers, I grazed my knees and my hands, and I got really annoyed with my own clumsiness. Didn’t stop me from using the Dance Mat a bit once we got home though!

Talking about the Goose Fat & Garlic though… It’s not quite how it used to be… By that, I mean, the quality of the food’s going down and down and down everytime we go. We need to find ourselves another nice restaurant to go to for special occasions because the Goose Fat’s fired! I think the only reason we still go is because it’s within bimbling-home distance. Though I may have learned my lesson — Bimbling home is NOT safe, better take a taxi home!

Two days left till my birthday and Rowhill Grange will be a more than welcome break away from home!

  • Happy birthday to youuuu!

Today is Andrew’s birthday. Mr.Peps is now 27 (28 if you ask my mom, 17 if you ask his colleagues). To celebrate, we lunched at Nando’s in Harlow along with most of his office! Tonight, we’re going out for a real nice treat — Dinner at the Goose Fat and Garlic in Sawbridgeworth, one of our favourite restaurants in the area. We’re going with our neighbours/friends from the Moorings, and I’m sure it’ll be good fun.

We may have a Dancing Fever competition afterwards, since there’s no better time to use the dance mat than when your downstairs neighbours are at ours! Seeing Nikki throw a tantrum at the Mat and Jerome succeed like a pro tends to be entertaining too πŸ™‚

Saturday, we’ll be going to Rowhill Grange, to celebrate Andrew’s birthday and mine. I can’t wait to use their spa again, it’s so amazingly relaxing… MmmMmmMMmmmm japanese therapy pool, jacuzzi and a big pool, a steam room and a sauna… Couldn’t ask for a better way to spend a birthday!

  • No complaints…

Why do blogs full of bitching and complaining seem more compelling than positive this-is-my-life stories? Maybe I like reading the ups and downs of others because my life’s generally going so well at the moment! It’s like seeing snippets of someone’s anger come out, and as long as I’m not on the receiving end of their wrath, it’s kind of amusing to read.

I criticize reality TV for its voyeurism but I’m fascinated by blogs. Even strangers’ stories grab my curiosity and I can’t help but check what’s going on with their lives the following week!

On a different note, winter’s coming. It’s been terribly windy for the past week and even long sleeves don’t seem to cut it anymore. Time to get the warm and fluffy winter tops, or in my case, go shopping for some more! My minimal collection of clothing won’t quite get me through the winter! Soon enough, the paychecks will come in and I’ll be able to treat myself to a shopping trip to NEXT, my favourite store. MmMMmmm nice warm clothes…

  • "So how's married life treating you?"

If I hear “So how’s married life treating you?” once more, I will injure that person badly! AHHhhhhh enough of people asking me that! Yes it’s good, yes we’re living together like before, yes Andrew’s a good cook still, yes I still have to remind him to pick up his dirty socks… Basically, married life is good but it’s no different from before the wedding πŸ™‚

Oh yah, I must tell all about our day trip in France! Next post, later today! All I’ll say is YUM, tasting really nice cheeses was like heaven on earth!

  • Γ€ la volontΓ© du peuple…

Just a quick note to say this weekend should be fun! Tonight, we’re heading over to Sevenoaks and staying over at Andrew’s parents’ house, so we can leave early in the morning to go to France for the day. Sure we aren’t going much further than Calais, but it’ll be great fun. (Translation: We’ll be able to babble in French fast enough for Andrew and the in-laws to look at us funny, wondering what we’re going on about!)

Montreuil-sur-mer, 1823. Montreuil is where the story of Les Miserables, by Victor Hugo, begins… It’s also where he first started writing the story, which then moves to Paris, in the heart of the French revolution…

Then on Sunday, Andrew will make a fool of himself along with a handful of coworkers, as they attempt to win the local Dragonboat race. They won last year, now they have tshirts to say so. It’s like the British Olympic Team, hype ’em too much and they’ll fail. One way or the other, I’m cheering “Let’s Go Expos, Let’s Go!” πŸ˜›

  • Technology still amazes me

So I’ve had an email address for over 10 years now and I’ve used chat rooms for nearly as long. I should view Internet as something as common as my toothbrush, right? Yeah, I guess that’s how I think of an Internet connection most of the time. An integral part of my day, and taken for granted when using any computer.

But sometimes, like right now, it still fascinates me. Speaking to mom when she gets to work, finding out Amy’s in Bangalore or talking to Andrew who’s just down the road. It’s all so instant and speedy! Without the Internet, I would probably lose touch with most people very quickly. I’m lazy… like REALLY lazy and I hate phones. I’ll talk the ear off my immediate family over the phone, but anyone else, I need to “relearn” to talk to on the phone. I’m not discouraging anyone from calling me though! πŸ˜›

If I had to call everyone to find out how they’re doing, it just wouldn’t happen. So MSN, Email and IRC turn out to be godsent means of communication for me! It CAN be a total waste of time, but at least it’s time wasted socializing!

  • Doh, i forgot a title

Ok again, the blog’s changed. No panic, it’ll all be back. I just couldn’t stand the fancy pantsyness of b2evolution so I switched to b2. Of course, it’ll involve putting all the old posts database back in, for which I’ll need the help of a big lump that’s sleeping on the sofa…

Until then, this is it. I’m still alive πŸ™‚

  • Finding the time to post…

Over the past few days, I’ve tried many times to post something on here, but as usual, it’s been manic.

First, last weekend, long weekend, we went camping. It was great fun and even though the weather wasn’t exactly at it’s greatest, it didn’t rain at all while we were there. As it’s the most popular long weekend in the country, the roads were blocked completely with caravans, Sunday drivers and accidents!

Camping in the UK is quite different to camping in Canada for a few main reasons. To start off, in the UK, because campsites tend to be smaller and tent sites closer together, camp fires are illegal. Sure, didn’t stop us from having one in the neighbour’s old BBQ frame! Also, you don’t get mosquitoes here… but you get wild horses sneaking by your tent to smell your food and take a big poop in the most innapropriate places. The atmosphere is generally different in ways I can’t describe too, but maybe that’s down to the way we did things with my family as opposed to the way we do things with friends!

This week, most of my department is in Sitges (Barcelona) for our Sales Conference. Unfortunately I won’t be there to see the presentations we’ve worked so hard on. Most Marketing Executives are there, but a few of us don’t get to go — in my case, it’s simply because I started working as M.E. only a few weeks ago! Hopefully, I’ll make it to the next conference πŸ™‚

That’s it for now, but I’ve got so much more I want to say! Will post again shortly!

  • august monsoon

This is ridiculous! EVERY afternoon this week, we’ve had absolutely pounding rain! By the time I leave work, it’s usually stopped raining and drying up, leaving us with a lovely crisp fresh air, a blue sky and a nice sunset.

I’m just praying that by this weekend, the weather will be clear and sunny again, as we’ll be camping in the New Forest with Kate, Kirky, Dan, Marjo and Pete. Should be good fun, we can always spend some time in a pub till the rain stops, as long as it doesn’t rain WHILE we try to put the tents up!

I hear Ottawa’s weather hasn’t been any nicer… What’s going on with this crazy world!
