Although Google Earth isn’t a novelty to the geek community, it’s worth mentioning that it is available for download again.
It lets you view the world in (almost) 3D images and zoom in on neighbourhoods.

Once, podcasting, like blogging, was hidden in the shadows, a hobby only a select few knew about.
Now, it’s become mainstream enough for Apple to make it an integral part of their iTunes software. But podcasts have changed. The same way blogging is being perverted by bosses blogging cheesy shop talk, podcasting is being used as a thinly-disguised commercial tool. Podcasts are properly edited, perfectly mixed and just… too glossy to feel real.
It’s meant to be spontaneous, natural, but the new types of podcasts are simply edited radio shows distributed in mp3 format.
Ah well, there will always be a few true podcasters.

Here are the beautiful flowers Andrew got me for our first anniversary. They’ve grown so large now, they’re taking over the room!
Friday was our first wedding anniversary. Unbelievable that it’s already been a year, but at the same time, even more unbelievable how MUCH we’ve done in this past year! I wouldn’t swap my life for anyone else’s, because everything’s just so good at the moment.
Andrew sent me a huge bouquet of pink roses and white and pink lillies at work for the occasion, and today, they’re blooming so beautifully, making our new house feel even lovelier! It’s the first time I get flowers like that, especially at work, so I was excited 🙂 We had a nice evening in – it felt like a treat after the busy past few weeks we’ve had!
Saturday was Frank & Jeanne’s Carribean themed BBQ and it was a total success! Even the weather chipped in, proving the forecasts wrong as the sun came out in full strength in the afternoon. Andrew and I worked at the bar, just as we did two years ago for the last BBQ, and served pina coladas, champagne cocktails and beers by the bucketload!
All in all, a very nice weekend, ending with another BBQ, this time in our own garden, with Andrew’s sister Lisa and her hubby Stu. The weather’s turned out to be really rather warm today, but we’ve got to make the most of it before it goes back to drab rain. Tomorrow, back to work, and somehow I’m actually quite looking forward to it! It’s great to do a job I enjoy again.
After this morning’s events, I was absolutely speechless, 24 hours to the minute after I’d stepped out of King’s Cross station, it was blowing up. After a quick round of check-ups on family and friends to ensure no one was affected, I just kept checking the BBC website for updates out of utter disbelief at the events.
As the news kept repeating, Londoners weren’t panicked and responsibly got to safer grounds. Im a way I’m glad people here are that way, since I’m sure Americans would have behaved very differently, being much more prone to drama and conspiracy theories. But at the same time, it’s frightening that we’re becoming so blasé that such an event still appears to be of minimal proportion when compared to the events of September 11th or the recent wars.
Not much I can say other than I hope everyone is safe and sound at home tonight. I’ll be thanking my lucky star tonight that my meeting in London was yesterday and not today and that my loved ones are all safe.

*Listens to crowds cheering* Well, it was a good choice of day to come to the London office, even though it took me three hours to get in the office! (The joys of living off train lines and needing to use bus-bus-train-underground-walk to get in!)
It’s hard to believe it’s been twelve years since Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka were jailed for the vicious murder of teenagers Kristen French and Leslie Mahaffy, as well as the death of Tammy, Karla’s sister.
Yesterday, Karla Homolka was released from a minimum-security jail in Ste-Anne-Des-Plaines and within a few hours, agreed to an interview with the CBC. Watch the interview here.
I’m left with an uneasy feeling. Of course, she’s most likely not dangerous anymore, having gone from a scared little 17-year old girlfriend who did anything her disturbed boyfriend asked, to a grown up woman with education and a better understanding of life. But as she said, she hasn’t paid her debt socially and emotionally. Should she be allowed to walk out and go back to living a somewhat normal life, most likely in a small Québec village where not many people really know who she is, while the families of the teenagers who were murdered brutally are left with nothing? Who knows, maybe people will show a forgiveness I can’t understand and give her another chance. One thing that is certain is that Bernardo will never get this public forgiveness.

Apple now advertises its new iPod as “podcast ready”, but to quote pioneer Montreal podcaster M-C Turgeon, “dude, it’s called a podcast! as in ipod!”
It’ll certainly be interesting to see how podcasting develops commercially and culturally over the next few months or years, now that iTunes integrates podcasts in a special part of its library. I believe all podcasts are currently free, but the possibility of commercial podcasts is there and without a doubt, it’ll be a reality soon.
Whether podcasters will have to pay fees to use songs or whether the listeners will be footing the bill, we’ll have to see but someone somewhere is going to make big money out of it.
