  • Caffeine

Coffee is so good but so bad… I love my little vanilla latte on a Friday morning but it turns me into a stressball… It doesn’t particularly wake me up, it just makes me feel wired and tense!

I’d say I’ll quit drinking coffee, but I know it’s not going to happen.. Maybe I should try decaf… Wow that’ll be a mouthful at 9am! “Hi Vanessa, can I get a skinny decaf vanilla latte?” *passes out on coffee shop counter*

  • Work stress

How do you get back to internal peace when you feel like screaming and breaking things because work is asking too much? What do you do on your 5 minutes break to regain your sanity?

    Ok I found one way… Here’s a good’un!

Pilots and Attendants to passengers: Whilst thinking about flying off on summer holidays (just in case you are)….. Apparently real announcements from pilots and cabin crew.

    1) Pilot: “Folks, we have reached cruising altitude now, so I am going to switch the seatbelt sign off. Feel free to move about as you wish, but please stay inside the plane till we land. It’s a bit cold outside and if you walk on the wings it affects the flight pattern.”

    2) Airline attendant during safety demonstration: “There may be fifty ways to leave your lover, but there are only four ways out of this aeroplane.”

    3) Stewardess after a bumpy touchdown “We ask you to please remain seated whilst Captain Kangaroo bounces us to the terminal.”

    4) Loudspeaker announcement after landing: “Thank you for flying Business Express. We hope you enjoyed giving us the business as much as we enjoyed taking you for a ride.”

    5) Attendant from same airline: “Welcome aboard. To operate your seatbelt, insert the metal tab into the buckle and pull tight. If you don’t know how to operate one then you really shouldn’t be out unsupervised. “In the event of a sudden loss of cabin pressure, oxygen masks will descend from the ceiling. Stop screaming, grab the mask, and pull it over your face. If you have a small child with you, secure your own mask before assisting with theirs. If you are travelling with two small children, decide now which one you love more”.

    6) Pilot: “The weather at our destination is 50 degrees with some broken clouds, but they’ll try to have them fixed before we arrive. Thank you, and remember…..nobody loves you or your money more than this airline”.

    7) Stewardess: “Your seat cushions can be used for flotation. In an emergency water landing, please take one with our compliments”.

    8) Pilot heard over loudspeaker during touchdown: “Whoa, big fella, WHOA!”

    9) Flight attendant after rough landing: “Please remain in your seats with your seatbelts fastened while the Captain taxis what’s left of our plane to the terminal gate”.

    10) Stewardess: “As you exit, please make sure to gather your belongings. Anything left behind will be evenly distributed among the attendants. Please do not leave children or spouses”.

    11) Pilot: “We are pleased to have some of the best flight attendants in the industry…..sadly none of them are on this flight”.

    12) Flight attendant: ” Ladies and Gentlemen, please remain in your seats until Captain Crash and his crew have brought the aircraft to a screeching halt up against the terminal gate. Once the tyre-smoke has cleared and the warning bells stop, we’ll open the door and you can pick your way through the wreckage to the terminal”.

    13) Steward: “We’d like to thank you folks for flying with us today. And the next time you get the insane urge to go blasting through the skies in a pressurised metal tube, we hope you’ll think of us”.

    14) Stewardess: “Last passenger off the plane has to clean it”.

    15) Loudspeaker announcement: ” I don’t know whether we landed or were shot down”.

    16) Pilot “Welcome aboard flight 163 to New York, we shall be flying at oh my god!… oh no!…. Jesus Christ!……. sorry about that folks, I’ve just spilt my coffee, you should see the front of my trousers.”
Passenger… “You should see the back of mine.”

  • WordPress voted App of the year

Through Photo Matt, I found out that Ars Technica has voted WordPress Best Web Application of the Year.

WordPress probably is the best blog application available at the moment, but as 2005 has been announced as the Year of the Blog, I’m sure we’ll see even more customizable blogs and useful plugins.

  • Powergen

    Quote of the day:

Man standing in a kitchen, next to a pan of potatoes boiling. “When you’re boiling vegetables, only use enough water to keep them covered. The same applies when taking a bath.”

  • Butternut squash bubble & squeak

I was planning on making my same old butternut squash, pecorino and prosciutto salad as I usually make, but Andrew had a fantastic idea.

He’s making a steamed butternut squash, zucchini, carrots & green chilli bubble & squeak. Yes, dear North American friends, I can hear you ask what bubble & squeak! It’s what’s generally made with leftover cooked vegetables and potatoes by mashing and grilling or frying them all together. It’s really tasty! Heehee we cheated by adding a few slices of lean Canadian bacon into it!

MmmmMmmm smells so good! I’m looking forward to dinner! *wipes drool*

  • LAL – Warm Belly High Power

MmmMmmm I love LAL. Their first album, Corners, was one of the top-played album out of anything I own for a few years…

LAL at Grapefruit MoonNow, I’ve discovered their latest album, thanks to Pearl blogging about it! Still can’t give a thorough review yet, as I haven’t even listened to the full album once… Listening to music at work really doesn’t do a new album justice, so I’ll have to give it a few listens then I’ll comment.

But for the moment, the mood it puts me in is great for focussing on work that needs to be done.

Talking of focus… back to work!

Update 05/01/05: This album’s great, just like Corners, it’s the amazingly glowing and peaceful mood the music puts me into that makes me listen to it repeatedly. I wish I knew more about LAL, as their website doesn’t say a huge amount.

  • New Feature: Shoutbox!

Andrew created a custom-made shoutbox for me today! If you want to leave me a shout to let me know you’ve popped by, that’s the way to do it! It’s always good to know someone’s reading me!

  • Christmas photos

Took me a few days to get them online, but here are the photos from Christmas Eve until the 27th spent with Andrew’s family. We were joined by my cousin Marjo and her boyfriend Wayne on the 26th. It was great to see them!

    Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

PS – Photos from my family’s Christmas in Canada to come soon!
PPS – I’m also about to create a new category on the right hand side called “Family” so that’ll link to all my entries relating to family events… Will make it easier when relatives want to see those posts and aren’t interested by my techno-rants!
