  • The 2006 Bloggies

It’s that time of the year again!

Last year, Dooce cleaned up and gracefully thanked her readers, and many lesser-known bloggers shot to fame.

2006 BloggiesNow, it’s time to go vote for your favourite blogs of 2005. I’m not posting this because I expect you to nominate me, I’m only posting it because last year, I only realised it was time to nominate a day before voting closed and nearly missed my chance to enter my favourites in!

You have until January 20th to enter all your nominations, at which point the shortlisted blogs will appear for you to go vote for a winner!

Have fun, and be original, there are so many good blogs out there. Definite top bloggers in the food category for me are Chocolate & Zucchini and Domestic Goddess!

  • Dear Sabine

Seeing as I am search result 130(ish) on Google when searching for “Sabine Schmidt”, if you happen to come across this post when searching for your name, could you please give my husband a ring because he fancies you a bit a lot.

    Thank you,
    Vero Peps
PS – I’d rather he fancies you than Naomi Cleaver or Sarah Beeny. At least you’re cool and there’s a reason to fancy you!

  • Seen on a Landrover Defender this morning:

“Fat people are hard to kidnap…” in bright yellow lettering on camo green, on a Landrover Defender parked amongst a half dozen of them, clearly spec’ed up and used for some serious off-roading.

  • Who are your favourite comedy actors?

But more than anything, who are your worst ones?

I was thinking about it and Hell for me would be to be stuck in a small room with Adam Sandler, Jim Carrey and… who’s that other one… umm oh yeah Ben Stiller! Well, unless I had a gun with three shots as well. Then I think it’d be closer to heaven. But seriously, those guys aren’t funny! Slapstick humour just doesn’t do it for me, so Sandler’s out, Jim Carrey just makes me want to slap him, and Stiller just drives me nuts!

Will Ferrell is just one notch higher. Watching Anchorman at the moment, and it’s sort of cute and vaguely funny so I can cope. I guess everyone needs an easy-watching movie sometimes…

  • Preppeller.net – it's about time!

    Newsflash!

The woman knows how to work her magic! Finally, after a couple years of delay on my plan to take over the world by turning everyone into bloggers, I’ve managed to convince Andrew, my dear other half (the lesser one of course), that he was off the Cool list if he didn’t get a blog.

So now, instead of me geekily sitting on the sofa with my laptop to blog, we’ll both be geekily sitting on the sofa blogging.

You’ll find him at preppeller.net. Please please go shout some abuse at him! 😉

  • The Fashion Police is out in full force

They need to be! What would we do without the Go Fug Yourself girls to point out how badly multimillionaire Smellywood stars have been dressing recently! They’ve been in my selection of links on the left for a long time but I spent most of the evening last night going through archives and having a good laugh. (Yes, I’m that sad, shut up.)

Debbie Gibson looking fuglyI mean, I don’t even know where to start, they’ve found some complete pearls in there. Let’s take Exhibit A here, Debbie Gibson wearing something I can only describe as ill-fitting.

I’m not exactly the queen of fashion here, but some of those people have got to be out of their minds to show up on the red carpet in horrid outfits! For a true true example of fugliness at its best, click on the “Chloe Sevigny” category.

Muah! How I missed you, Fug!

  • If it was going to happen, it had to be now…

Google Analytics has been down all day. It’s worked wonkily but HAS worked over the past few weeks. Now TODAY, of ALL days, I NEEEED it to work for me. But it won’t. And it’s pissing me off.

Dear Google, please promise me you’ll stop biting bigger than you can chew. It’s bad for your digestion.
To quote the little girl in the diesel VW advert, “Bollocks!”

  • WordPress 2.0

The new version of WordPress, possibly the best blogging tool out there, is out. On the 31st of December 2005, WP2.0 (known as “Duke”) was launched.

While the upgrade from 1.2 to 1.5 felt a bit pointless, the upgrade to 2.0 is worth it in every way. The new spam filters, the entirely new admin section using an AJAX-esque upload system and a much improved post box are only some of the new features to be found in there. The upgrade was painless (though that could be down to my dear other half who did it all…) and my custom theme didn’t break much during the process, requiring just a few little tweaks.

WP2 comes highly recommended! Go on, you know you want to switch!

  • Brain, oh brain, come back from your state of mush

Magical TrevorI’ve been wanting to write a couple of things, totally groundbreaking stuff, you know, like rewriting the laws of physics, and coming with new theories to solve world hunger. But looks like my brain’s refusing to work, so I’m leaving you with my funny discovery of New Years Eve.

I present to you, the one, the only, Magical Trevor!

(And if you like it, here’s a second and a third Magical Trevor clip!)

Good luck with your first day back in the office, everyone…

  • Last look back: The blog

The end of a year comes a bit like the end of a roll of toilet paper, it happens sooner than you thought it would. Before I rush into 2006 like a bull in a China shop, I thought I’d take one last look back at how this blog’s evolved over 2005.

that canadian girl older versionThe most obvious change is the new look and feel, back in February. From some frighteningly pink Warholesque pop art, Andrew helped me create a new look using an image that represents me so well – a short, grumpy, stumpy girl! 😉

Back in January, I was all impressed by the 2000 unique visitors I was getting. Over the course of the year, that number’s grown to over 8000, and the Google searches have only been getting funnier. If I managed to multiply the number of unique visitors in 2005, I’ll try to do the same in 2006!

I could list more random blog-stats but I’m probably already boring the living hell out of everyone…
