  • Cricket

Ok. Cricket’s been the big thing these past few weeks. Everyone wants to know the score. Everyone’s asking whether they’ve played this afternoon or whether the light was too bad to play.

And I sit there. And I watch.

Read my lips: “This – sport – makes – no – sense!”

What game lasts 5 days and ends in a tie!? Worse, who pays for tickets, goes well out of their way to watch their team play, yet cheers when the Umpire with the funny hat says their team won’t be batting just yet because the weather’s not good or the light’s too low?!

I’m starting to understand the rules about the ball and the wickets and the kneepads and the running around. But still, a sport that lasts 5 days a game and has been won by the same country for 19 years is much too odd for me.

I guess I should stick in the “Go England Go!” here, to please the father in law, but I’m sorry to say, even after his Cricket 101 course for me this afternoon, I still don’t get it. Sorry. I’ll go back to playing hockey with a frozen poop, like a good little Canadian.

  • Failure? I think we all know where to find it

George W. Bush may be an idiot, but it appears Google also believes him to be a failure.

    Bush is a Failure

Ok, great, we all could’ve expected the negative coverage over the years to rate him quite high on such a word in search engines. But even funnier is the Sky News caption department having a bit of a laugh at his expense.

    Bush is a disaster

What else is there to say? 🙂

  • Upgrade completed

I’m finally running WordPress 1.5 – after months of moaning and bitching at my dear other half to get him to do it, I’ve finally managed to tie him down to his chair long enough that he knew he had no choice but to fulfil his duty as Geek of the House, before I’d let him go free.

(And if you’re about to ask why I didn’t do it myself, he made the mistake of tweaking the crap out of the 1.2 version, which implicitely contracted him to give me all the same features again when upgrading!)

  • Things to do on a rainy day

Last night was quite stormy, while today, it’s just pouring down with rain. So I’m putting together a list of things to do to pass time…

    • Read a book (and refresh book list, which is in dire need of an update…)
    • Upgrade blog to WordPress 1.5 after months of talking about it
    • Talk someone new into setting up a blog
    • Plan and cook something really complicated (after Andrew does the dishes…)
    • Read up on Mac OS X and drool…
    • What else?

What do you do on rainy days?

  • Another stupid application for Google Maps

When I was a kid, I was told that if I dug a hole in the ground, I would come out in China.

    Clearly, I was lied to.

  • Eeeee storm!!!

The kid in me gets so excited when there’s a big storm! I was on the phone to an important American manager for our sister company, but couldn’t stop staring at the crazy lightning outside! And the rain, the RAIN, it was loud like a TRAIN while I was trying to concentrate on chats of conversion rates and cancellation policies.

*sticks face in the window and waits for the next bolt of lightning*

  • Genius ideas

Apple taps into a few more niche markets with accessories for the current iPods.

    • The Hogwarts-engraved 20GB iPod, which comes with nearly 100 hours of audiobooks – All six Harry Potter novels being read by Jim Dale
    • The iPod Nano’s Lanyard Headphones: Forget having to wear both separately, buy them as one! The lanyard has headphones coming out of it!
    • The iPod socks, the Kate Spade covers, etc etc etc…

With this, they can push just a few more people into buying the new Apple wonders.

Certainly, using the iPods as a gateway to convert people to the Mac OS is working well. Isn’t it, Andrew? 🙂

  • What they say

    Keith Olberman, of MSNBC :

“[M]ost chillingly of all, this is the Law and Order and Terror government. It promised protection — or at least amelioration — against all threats: conventional, radiological, or biological. It has just proved that it cannot save its citizens from a biological weapon called standing water.

  • The Nano and the Hybrid

    Apple’s new babies are born!

Rokr, the new iPod phone by Apple and Motorola

The iPod Hybrid phone has made a lot of ink run. Rokr is developed by Motorola and can hold 100 songs, which are managed in a lite version of iTunes. It’s a bit of a shame that it’s a Motorola phone, as it looks as unimpressive and normal as any other phone, rather than funky and innovative like, for example, Apple’s new iPod baby, the Nano. The ability to carry 100 songs hardly pushes the limits of what phones can already do.

The iPod Nano has won my heart much more than the Rokr has, that’s the least I can say. Granted I won’t be running out to buy one, but I do find Apple has really got it right with this one again. It’s got a colour screen, either 2GB or 4GB, shiny black or Apple white.

    Simple, practical and goddamn stylish.

But if you love the colourful iPod minis, go buy one NOW because Apple’s phasing them out. It’ll be Shuffle, Nano, and full-size iPod! I think that’s a bit of a mistake, as the colourful ones are funky and well… my favourite ones!
