    Have you spotted your house yet?

    I’ve tried it with my Canadian address and my parents’ house is *just* off the map by about a square because it’s too far from the biggest city, but I can see my elementary school a few streets away. I’ve tried my current and soon-to-be British addresses and unfortunately, we’re not worthy of satellite maps, only old-style drawn maps.

    Otherwise, when looking for random American locations or big Canadian cities, it certainly is entertaining! Still no luck in finding llamas though, which is a bit of a dissapointment to a few of us…

    I love doing this… scrolling through the searches that landed people on my site recently…

    Some highlights so far in April:

    • “my dyson keeps turning off” Sorry to hear that… Ever thought of calling the store you bought it from??

    It doesn’t get any better, I swear! But I must get to sleep now… and dream of a huge Darwinist event that causes all the idiots to annihilate themselves! (Though they ARE quite entertaining… in their own stupid ways)

  • Happy Birthday blog!

    Today, April 7th 2005, is thatcanadiangirl.co.uk’s first birthday!

    I’ve had websites, live journals and other small and pointless online presences on and off since 1994, but on April 7th 2004, I decided I was here to stay and setup a little squatter’s corner on a friend’s website, using b2 (or was it b2evo? either way it was bloated and patched together).

    Cake!Once I settled down in England, I moved the blog to WordPress, and with a bit (a lot) of help from my dear other half, I settled with a first design. It was grey and blue, followed by a candy pink design, followed by the beautiful current design, for which Andrew gets all credit really!

    So over the course of a year, with a total of approximately 360 posts, I’ve achieved what I wanted: a daily diary about my life and the events of the past year, graduation, moving back to the UK, getting married, going on holidays, buying a house, also sprinkled with short articles about technology, blogging, tv, music, and other random thoughts. I haven’t been writing for as long as some of my favourite bloggers but at least, I can now proudly say it’s been a whole year! And what an exciting year it was!

    Without readers, blogs are hardly interesting at all, so thank you, dear readers, for turning this into an interactive and exciting adventure! It’s been a year, and it’s only just starting to get interesting!

    Long live blogging!

  • Google to offer vlogging

    Google will be experimenting with vlogging, or video blogging, over the next few months. Can’t say I’d complain if I was offered free space, with no limit on bandwidth or space usage, but if their servers for vlogging is as temperamental as their Blogger.com current servers, that’ll be the ultimate turn-off.

    The downtime for Blogger.com’s admin area, which includes the posting section, is unbelievably high these days. I’m glad I’ve decided not to go down the Blogger route for more than a single post!

  • Some Canadian bloggers

    Thought I’d make a list of the Canadians I’ve noticed recently in the blogosphere and have started reading. We all know assiduous blogging takes time and dedication, but I thought I’d give even the brand new blogs a chance.

    • Canadian Expats is a newly-created blog with a few different authors, (such a new blog, it only has one author so far… Ok, two because I decided to get involved!) cross the world.
    • BiteMe is written by a vegan from Northern Ontario with a tendancy to kill her houseplants apparently… as well as a habit of saying “Bite me!” to large headless corporations.
    • Marmalade is a random banter and knitting (!!!) blog that I’ve been reading somewhat regularly for the past few months. Always makes me smile 🙂
    • Pioneer Woman by Melissa, a Canadian with two beautiful kids and a cat, writes about everyday life in a Canadian home.

  • Funny Google Searches

    So far in March, these are some of the amusing searches that have landed people on my website:

    * “turkey twizzlers” (because of the show Jamie’s School Dinners of course)
    * “picture of testicle in egg cup” Some people are twisted…
    * Many variations using the words, “nipple”, “Javine” and “Eurovision”
    * “give up all hope of ever having a flat stomach” I’m offended! I’m not ready to give up yet!!
    * “email contacts of bread in canada 2005” Wow I knew email was popular, but even bread has email now?
    * “what are snowflakes?” Wow how thick are YOU?!
    * “the door is alarmed. how do you think i feel?” What? You think I care??
    * One of the repeated entries that I get every month and makes me laugh to tears “Anastacia is a man” Good to see I’m not the only one suspecting this!!!

    I’ve got some more good ones, but that’ll do for now 🙂

  • 30-hour Famine

    Support Darren in his attempt at fundraising $1000CDN before the end of March! This will be enough to feed three children for a whole year and save them from malnutrition and famine. And you don’t have to be Canadian to donate, just check his post for more details!

    Make sure you visit his blog on April 1st and 2nd for some light-headed posts and a few laughs, I’m sure. Best luck Darren!

    Also on the fundraiser front, Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day last Friday has raised over £37 million! And the money’s still coming in! That’s $85.5 million dollars in Canadian money, or nearly 7.5 billion Japanese Yen! But most of all, it’s money that will help people both within Britain and all over Africa. If you haven’t donated, it’s not too late! (Are you telling me that Little Britain sketch with Robbie Williams as a “laaayyydeee” wasn’t enough to convince you to donate?!)

    OooOooOOoo nifty little thing, but still debating it’s usefulness…

    Montage-A-Google lets you type a keyword in the search box, and click Create Montage to get a funky little montage using 20 images that fit that word… Why do I have a feeling Andrew’s going to search “boobies” or something equally as intelligent as soon as he sees this? 😉
