    GenieLab‘s music recommendation system is the answer to my constant whining that I don’t have enough music, and don’t know what new material to add to my collection.

    You rate your favourite artists and get recommendations through the system’s predictions of what else you might like, based on other people’s ratings. Tons of interesting names come up, accompanied by descriptions from Amazon and iTunes. At the moment, there isn’t quite a wide enough range of ratings to get accurate recommendations beyond the top pop music, but the more the system is used, the better it will get.

    I’ve already found a few artists of interest on there, so I may add new names to my iPod’s regular playlist soon!

    Great deal for the owner who must get a small commission for every music purchase people make on Amazon, iTunes and MSN Music (never heard of that one!) but as, for the first time in ages, this is run by an individual rather than by a mega-corp, I say thumbs up, why not support it!

    Comment survive à février quand on a l’impression que le mois le plus court de l’année a décidé de rester plus longtemps qu’y faut (Inspiré par MEB qui trouve que février manque de pep)

    • Envoyer des bonbons par courier interne à nos amis dans le reste du bureau
    • Les petits paquets de sauce St-Hubert que ma môman m’a apporté pour que je me sente chez nous
    • Ma première tempête de neige en Angleterre (ça commence juuuste à tomber maintenant… pleasepleaseplease je veux une journée à la maison à cause de 2cm de neige)
    • Du fromage Halloumi grillé sur une salade verte avec un peu de sauce chilli
    • Des sushis californiens pour souper (comme je vais faire ce soir)
    • Relaxer sur le sofa, accotée sur les nouveaux coussins terracotta qu’on vient d’acheter puis qui sont mille fois plus beaux que les vieux
    • LAL – Warm Belly High Power sur repeat
    • Des bons livres comme le Da Vinci Code qui me poussent à faire ma propre recherche sur les faits historiques du livre
    • Le soleil qui est encore là quand je quitte le bureau!!!

  • Ooooh snow storm!

    The snow is starting to fall quite thick now! It’s the first time I see snow in England that actually settles on the ground!

    We’re all behaving like school kids in the office, hoping for a snow day tomorrow so we can all stay home!

  • You want snow?? I'll give you snow!

    Weather forecasters are starting to raise alarms over potential “heavy snow” over the next few days. *smirks* The expected temperature for the next three days will hover around the zero degrees *snickers a bit* There are red alerts over the possibility of “two to five centimetres of snow expected to fall at low levels [in North Yorkshire] and between 10 and 20cms on the North York Moors.” *bursts out laughing out loud and falls off chair*

    Jeeeeebus, Brits make me laugh. STOP THE WORLD, ITS GOING TO SNOW!!! I mean, I understand why this country has a hard time coping with snow, given the infrequent snowfalls and the lack of infrastructure to take care of the roads when there are more than a few snowflakes but it’s still hilarious if you ask me!! All I can hope for is a day off because our poor little car can’t get over the slippery bridge! 😉

  • And the weekend ends…

    This weekend went by so quickly!

    Last night, we went to the best Chinese restaurant I’ve ever been to, called Sun Do in Sevenoaks, Kent. Highly recommended if you’re going down that way! The salt and pepper prawns tasted just like Menorca chipirones, which caused the conversation to veer to the topic of our holiday there in June. All six of us will be there for Lisa’s birthday, and I can sense there will be many attempts at waterskiing (probably all failed in my case!) and a whole lot of fun!

    This morning, I went driving with Andrew in Sevenoaks. It’s so exciting (and scary) to drive in an area I don’t know as well, where I’m not sure what’ll come up around the bend. I’m looking forward to being done with lessons and being a confident driver but for the time being, I’m having fun learning! Positive thinking makes all the difference… oh and remembering to use the clutch too!

    On a complete side-note, my song of the moment is without a doubt Eminem’s “Like Toy Soldiers”. With that choir of children sampled from 80s pop star Martika’s single ‘Toy Soldiers’ and the marching band drum roll in the background, I could hear it over and over. It’s good to hear Eminem do less silly stuff than the D12 “My Band”, he’s got a lot to say…

    Aaaand, only a week til I go see LAL in Brighton! That’ll be a fantastic show without a doubt even though it’s apparently in quite a small underground slightly-divey club.

  • Officially weekend

    I’ve just walked in from my driving lesson (number 8 if my calculations are right) and *drum roll* I can now officially say, my weekend has started!

    Mmmm this weekend should be great! Andrew and I want to make sushi this evening. Then tomorrow, we’re going down to Sevenoaks for Andrew’s dad’s birthday and we’ll be having gorgeously yummy chinese food. Another weekend of indulgence in sight!

  • Thursday is the new Friday

    It’s decided. Thursdays will now be like Fridays, involving slacking off after 4pm, mass emails such as “Top 5 reasons not to be working right now”, ridiculous forwards and general slagging off of colleagues.

    Today really feels like a Friday because I’ve got the day off tomorrow. It’s my second day in lieu for the conference that happened a few weeks ago. I’ll have a daytime driving lesson tomorrow but other than that, it’ll be generally chilling out and cleaning the apartment. This week just felt like it lasted forever so Friday off couldn’t come at a better time!

    Then Saturday, we’re celebrating Andrew’s dad’s birthday and going out for dinner.

    So overall, it sounds like a lovely three-day weekend to me… And my office smells like bacon for some odd reason!

    It’s madness. Google takes my blog seriously, it seems!

    When searching for IKEA Stampede, something I mentioned a week ago, Google puts me in 4th position on the first page! This means I’m higher than BBC, CNN and Fox on the topic!

    Ok, my episode of utter dorkiness is over now.
